Law firm SEO

SEO for law firms and paralegals in Scarborough

SEO for law firms and paralegals in immigration, family, real estate and criminal practice. Clients search by practice area and language, and also for whether the first conversation is free.

  • Immigration
  • Family law
  • Real estate
  • Wills & estates
  • Paralegals

Clients pick law firms by problem, place and language

Nobody searches “lawyer” and stops there. Google’s suggestions after “lawyer Scarborough” are immigration, family, employment, divorce, criminal, estate and wills. Each is a separate search with its own competitors, so a firm ranks only for the ones it has a real page about.

Two things stand out in Scarborough. “Free consultation” is attached to immigration and family searches, for example. Language is also searched by name: Google suggests Tamil lawyer Scarborough, Tamil family lawyer and Tamil immigration lawyer unprompted.

  • 7 practice areas Google suggests
  • Free consultation attached to immigration and family
  • Tamil a language searched by name

Search demand

What clients type when searching for law firms

Canadian suggestion data. Practice area first, then cost and language.

real estate lawyer scarborough ontario High Transactional, so often chosen within a day or two.
average real estate lawyer fees ontario Research Fee transparency wins this reader, so publish how you charge.
scarborough lawyer wills High Steady demand, but rarely well served online.
divorce lawyer scarborough High High stakes, so clients compare carefully.
traffic ticket paralegal scarborough High Paralegal work with clear intent, so a page of its own pays off.
notary public scarborough $10 Medium Price-led, but a way into the office.

State the first-meeting terms and the languages

Two cheap changes move a law firm’s inquiries more than most. If you offer a free or fixed-fee first consultation, say so in the page title and on the Google profile, because clients are searching for those words. Also list the languages spoken by lawyers and staff. In Scarborough that is frequently why one firm gets the call while another does not.

Common gaps

Where law firms lose clients online

Four problems we find repeatedly.

  1. 01

    One “Practice areas” page

A list of eight areas on a single page ranks for none. Instead, immigration, family and real estate each need a page, and often sub-pages for specific matters.

  2. 02

A profile under the lawyer’s name and another under the firm’s

Google allows practitioner listings, but duplicates at one address often split reviews. So they need to be set up deliberately.

  3. 03

    Nothing about fees

Clients search for fees, so a page explaining how you charge, even without figures, keeps them from going elsewhere to find out.

  4. 04

    Written for other lawyers

Pages that cite statutes and avoid plain answers lose a worried reader in seconds.

Done carefully

Law firms, SEO and the Law Society’s marketing rules

Every trade has its own rules and its own ways to get burned. These are the limits we work inside by default.

By default
Legal marketing in Ontario must be accurate, verifiable and in keeping with the profession, so we write to that standard.

The Law Society of Ontario, which operates under the Law Society Act, regulates how lawyers and paralegals market their services, including limits on misleading statements, on using the word “specialist”, and on suggesting outcomes. The licensee stays responsible for their own marketing, so every page goes to you for approval before it is published.

Approval
Every page, by you
Outcomes
Never implied or promised
Titles
Only those you hold
Ask us about your business

  • No promised results or success rates.
  • No client details in reviews or replies.
  • No comparisons with other firms.

Questions

Questions law firms ask about SEO

Can a small firm compete with the big downtown ones?

For Scarborough searches, yes. Local results favour proximity, while a downtown firm is a long way from Malvern. Your advantage is being nearby and specific.

Should I advertise a free consultation?

If you offer one, state it clearly, with its length and limits. If you charge, say what the fee is. Either is better than leaving it unanswered.

Is it worth having a page in Tamil or Mandarin?

Listing languages is always worth doing. Full pages in another language make sense only where suggestion data shows demand, as it does for Tamil, and when a lawyer at the firm can write or approve the wording.

Can clients leave Google reviews?

They can, and many do. However, your reply must never confirm they were a client or mention their matter, so we provide wording that stays safe.

How long does legal SEO take?

Longer than most trades, because competition is strong. With SEO for law firms, expect four to six months for practice-area pages, but sooner for the Google profile.
