Structure
Decides what you can rank forGoogle ranks pages, not websites. For example, a single “Services” page listing ten things ranks for none of them, whereas ten pages, each about one service, give you ten chances.
Someone has found you on Google. Now they are on a phone, possibly in a parked car at a Sheppard Avenue plaza, comparing you with two other businesses. So your site needs to tell them what you do, where, and how to reach you before they go back and tap the next one.
Most small business sites fail at this for ordinary reasons: everything sits on one long page, the phone number is in the footer, the hours are out of date, and it takes six seconds to load. None of that needs a clever redesign. Instead, it needs a clear structure and care over the basics.
Search demand
In Canadian suggestion data, price comes first, and unlike most SEO terms, “Scarborough” does register here.
A website has three costs, and quotes that look far apart usually differ in which ones they include. First, the build is a one-time website design fee that depends mainly on how many pages need writing and designing. Then hosting and the domain are small recurring charges paid to third parties. Finally, upkeep is the ongoing work of updates, backups and fixes. So ask every provider to price the three separately and say who owns the domain and the site at the end. We quote that way too, in Canadian dollars, after seeing what you need.
Three ways to get a site
All three are reasonable choices, since they suit different situations, and it is better to pick the right one than the most expensive one.
What makes a local site work
Appearance matters, but these decide whether the site brings in work.
Google ranks pages, not websites. For example, a single “Services” page listing ten things ranks for none of them, whereas ten pages, each about one service, give you ten chances.
A visitor on mobile data in a plaza parking lot will not wait. That is why lean code, compressed images and decent hosting are built in from the start, not patched on later.
A tap-to-call number at the top of every page, a form with five fields or fewer, as well as hours and an address that match your Google profile exactly.
Real photos of your premises, staff and work, plus licence and insurance details where your trade has them. Also, reviews quoted with the customer’s first name and neighbourhood.
The work
Before any design, we list the pages the site needs based on what people search, so the structure serves ranking from the first day.
We write the pages after talking to you about how you work, and then you correct the facts. That way nobody is left staring at an empty “About us” box.
Layout, buttons and forms are designed at phone size and then expanded for larger screens, because Google uses the mobile version of a site for indexing and ranking.
A hand-built theme with no page builder, so pages stay light. Even so, you can still edit text, photos and blog posts yourself.
Clean headings, titles and descriptions, LocalBusiness structured data, a sitemap, and redirects from every old address so nothing is lost in the move.
The domain, hosting and site are in your name. In addition, you get the logins and a short guide to making common changes.
Done carefully
These are the limits we work inside by default, whether or not anyone asks.
If you stop working with us, you leave with your domain, your website and your content.
Some providers register the domain in their own name or build on a platform only they can access, so leaving becomes expensive. In contrast, everything we build is registered to you and runs on standard WordPress that any developer can take over.
Ask us about your business
How we work
Four steps, in order. You always know which one we are on and what it is for.
We check your site, your Google Business Profile and where you rank from several points across Scarborough, then show you the gaps.
We choose the searches worth winning in your neighbourhoods and assign each one to a single page, so no two pages compete.
Profile work, technical fixes, content and citations, done in order of impact so the biggest gains land first.
A monthly report on rankings, traffic, calls and forms, with next month’s plan written in plain English.
Questions
It depends mainly on the number of pages and whether the copy and photos exist already. So tell us what you need and we will send a fixed quote in Canadian dollars, with build, hosting and upkeep listed separately.
Most small business sites take a few weeks from the first conversation to launch. The usual delay is waiting for photos and approvals, so we ask for those early.
Often the existing one can be fixed. If it loads reasonably, works on a phone and lets us add pages, improving it is cheaper than replacing it. Either way, we will say which applies after a look.
A builder such as Wix is fine for a simple brochure site you maintain yourself. However, WordPress gives more control over structure and speed, which matters once the site is expected to rank.
Not if it is done properly. Every existing address is either kept or redirected to its new equivalent, and we check Search Console after launch.
Yes, because text, photos, hours and blog posts are all editable from the WordPress dashboard, and we show you how.
